Code of Ethics

Somatic Experiencing® & Massage Therapy Practice

Safety & Regulation I create a grounded, attuned environment where pacing, containment, and nervous‑system safety guide every session. All touch and all interventions honor the client’s comfort, capacity, and consent.

Client Autonomy & Choice Clients have full agency in the process. Consent is ongoing and can be changed at any time. Clients may pause, redirect, or decline touch or any technique.

Professional Boundaries I maintain clear, non‑sexual, ethical boundaries at all times. Dual relationships are avoided whenever possible and navigated with transparency when unavoidable.

Scope of Practice I practice within the limits of my licensure and training in massage therapy and Somatic Experiencing®. I do not diagnose, prescribe, or provide psychotherapy. When a client’s needs fall outside my scope, I refer to qualified professionals.

Integrity & Honesty I represent my credentials, training, and services accurately. Fees, scheduling, and policies are communicated with clarity and transparency.

Confidentiality Client information is held in strict confidence except where disclosure is required by law or necessary for safety. Records are stored securely.

Ethical Use of Touch Touch is always optional, gentle, and used only with clear consent. I uphold AMTA’s standards for safe, respectful, and professional touch, including appropriate draping and privacy.

Inclusivity & Cultural Humility I welcome all clients regardless of identity, background, or lived experience. I commit to ongoing learning around bias, trauma, and cultural context.

Professional Responsibility I maintain competence through continuing education, consultation, and ethical practice. I uphold the integrity of both Somatic Experiencing® and massage therapy in all professional settings.
